For all who are unaware, Howard Homecoming is an event that you could never miss the opportunity to enjoy. People travel from all over the United States just to come celebrate with students and alumni for a couple of days. Side note, it’s usually around my birthday, October 21^st, but they decided to move it up to the beginning of the month. Homecoming this year starts in about two weeks from now. October 11^thand the 12^th, yard-fest and the tailgate, is what students appreciate the most. There is also a fashion show, step show, YouTube Black FanFest (I got to cover it for Spotlight Network in 2018), a pep rally, and of course the football game before the tailgate. 

Despite all this going on, the most important part of all this remains your outfit. Howard is known for its “pop-out” culture which just means that basically all of the students who attend can dress their butts off and do it every-day with no hesitation. Students go viral on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram at LEAST five times during Homecoming and it is seen as the norm. One year a girl who was photographed, who wasn’t even a Howard student, went viral and got a modeling contract all from just being in the right place and the right time. With the extensive network of Howard Alumni, I’m sure it would have happened anyway even if the picture ceased to exist. 

Back to the outfits…I still DON’T have one. So I take you on a journey of trying to find something to wear for yard-fest as I don’t really care about my outfit for the tailgate. All in all, the quest is still on because I failed at finding anything and will just have to throw on things in my closet this year. This is not a bad thing as it should be considered normal to re-wear outfits whenever you want. Washers and dryers are a thing, and so is detergent.

The one factor stopping a lot of people from finalizing their outfits is the weather. Howard, being based in Washington, DC, the forecast is always a JOKE. It could go from being in the 60s one day, to being in the 90s the next and back to the freezing 60s at night. Right now it is supposed to be in the low 70s which means that outfits will be safe with and without outerwear. Let’s just hope that we all make the right decisions for outfits and everything else during that chaotic week.
