I am very excited to have Dr. P as my professor this year for my visual communications class. I can’t lie, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked in the first day of class. It is an early one and I am not usually a morning person, but Dr. P managed to brighten up my day and get me ready for the rest of the semester. One of my favorite parts of the class is the five minutes of meditation we will have before every session or lecture begins.
I think it’s an amazing idea and allows the students the opportunity to clear their minds and relax before opening our minds to take in some of her knowledge. I appreciate the fact that she is caring enough to do this for us, creating better positive habits over time that we can take with us outside of school. Another one of my favorite parts about the class is that she is an interesting, energetic, helping, and funny professor which makes it easy to pay attention and actually want to learn from her. It always makes the time go by faster and helps students to have excitement about their careers and learning experiences when professors are engaging and passionate. It sucks when we get professors who aren’t this way because it makes the class less interesting and most students will not care about learning the material, but just about passing the class. The little things Dr. P does for her students lets me know that not only does she care about our learning experience, but she cares about us and our well-being.
We received digital backpacks from Dr. P that contains a tripod, a selfie light, a lavalier mic, a hard-drive with a case, or other trinkets to help us along our visual communications journey. If we successfully pass the class with an A, we get to keep our digital backpacks. This is great considering some people may not have the money or resources to acquire a lot of these things that are needed in the media world. It’s quite generous and thoughtful for someone who barely met us to spend their time making sure we have things we’ll eventually need as communication students.
I ’m ready to learn all the things Dr. P has to teach us as I know it will serve a great purpose in the ever so changing technological world we live in today.
